God Waits to Be Gracious
“And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.”
You asked months ago and nothing has moved, and the silence has started to sound like a verdict quietly delivered.
So read the verse as what it is, which is a description of God rather than an explanation of your case. He waits. That is an extraordinary thing to say about him and Isaiah says it without hedging: therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you. He is exalted, and the reason given for the exaltation is mercy, which is not the reason anyone would have supplied. He is a God of judgment, meaning right ordering, meaning he will not hand out a kindness on terms that ruin the person receiving it. And blessed are all they that wait for him, which puts the waiting on both sides of the sentence: his and theirs.
And the therefore at the front points back at something bleak. Three verses earlier: in returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength. Then four flat words. And ye would not. This is a nation that had run out of patience and gone down to Egypt to cut its own deal, and Isaiah says that even the refusal did not change what God is doing. He is still waiting to be gracious to the people who did not wait for him.
Which is worth sitting with before you decide anything. There is probably an Egypt in your week, a call you are close to making, a compromise half decided, a relationship kept warm in case God does not come through. You do not have to make that move. That is an invitation and not an instruction, and the difference matters here, because the whole passage is about people who were pressured into a decision and made it too fast.
