Carried Like a Son
“The LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went.”
A father carries a sleeping child from the car to the bed. The boy half wakes at the door, sees the hallway light, and goes under again. In the morning he will have no memory of the trip at all.
That is most of what you know about the hardest five years you have had. You are here, upright, reading this, and you could not give an honest account of how that happened.
Moses says this to a generation standing at the border, and he says it as a rebuke, which is easy to miss. The LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went. All the way, not the difficult stretches only. And then the next breath: yet in this thing ye did not believe the LORD your God. They had the evidence in their own legs and still would not trust him with the next step. Being carried does not produce faith by itself. Remembering that you were carried is what does it, and remembering is the part nobody does automatically.
May the road you did not walk on your own strength be given back to you clearly, with names and dates attached. And may it arrive before the next border, not after.
