Unflinching Light
“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
A lamp carried down a long hallway does not make the hallway any shorter. It only shows you what is really standing in it.
David sings this line with enemies close by. Two verses later he faces the worst that could still happen: "Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear." So nothing has gone away. The danger is still there, but now it is in the light, and a fear brought into the light stops growing. Think of the fear that was waiting for you when you woke up this morning. Put it into David's question, "whom shall I fear?" and answer honestly. Then remember who David says is his light and his strength, and answer again.
