Daily Manna, Year Two · Day 118 · April 28

Not Ashamed

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Romans 1:16(King James Version)

When did you last change the subject?

Paul writes I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ to a church in the capital of the world, and he says less than he means on purpose. He has just told them he is debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. Rome would have found the whole thing provincial: a Jewish workman executed by a method the empire used to humiliate people, announced by a man with no standing. Years later, in a cell, he uses the word again and gives his reason: I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed. In Romans the reason is larger. For it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.

What did you decide it was, the last time you went quiet?
