Seated on the Throne
“To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.”
Laodicea had no good water supply of its own. Its water was piped in over several miles and arrived lukewarm, unlike the hot springs at nearby Hierapolis or the cold streams of Colossae.
To that town Christ says, "thou art lukewarm," and He names the reason: "thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing." So He tells them, "I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire." Then He offers His own throne "To him that overcometh," and He gives Himself as the example: "even as I also overcame." Weakness does not keep anyone from that seat; the feeling of having enough does.
The door is still open, even for a church like that one. "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock."
