Daily Manna · Day 243 · August 31
New Heavens and New Earth
“Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”
A woman turns off the news in the middle of a sentence. She stands in her kitchen, worn out by what she has heard.
Peter has something for her: a place to look forward to, and he did not invent it. He writes "according to his promise," because he is leaning on what God already said through Isaiah: "I create new heavens and a new earth." Then Peter tells her who lives there. It is a place "wherein dwelleth righteousness." What is right will not just visit on good days. It will live there, the way you live in your own house.
May you begin to feel at home in that place long before you see it.
Daily Manna runs on a two-year cycle. The year two reading for day 243 is Who May Say It (Genesis 45:5).
