Seeing His Face
“And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.”
What do you actually want most out of eternity?
Ask it around a table and the answers arrive quickly enough.
"Seeing the people I have lost. That is the first thing, and I would not pretend otherwise."
"Not this body. Whatever comes next, not this one."
"Honestly? An explanation. I want to know why it went the way it did."
Every one of those is somewhere in the book, and not one of them is what John puts at the end of it. He gives five words and lets them carry everything: they shall see his face.
That is a larger sentence than it looks. Moses asked for exactly this and was refused: Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. The whole apparatus of veil and holy place and one entry a year existed to manage the fact that nearness was lethal. Here the ban is simply lifted, and the reason is given in the same breath: there shall be no more curse. The face becomes survivable because what made it fatal is gone.
Read the they, though. John names them in the same sentence, his servants shall serve him, and the same chapter says plainly who is left outside. This is not a general amnesty. It is promised to his own, and their foreheads carry his name where anybody can read it.
So whose face have you been avoiding? A parent, an old friend, somebody you fell out with and have handled by text ever since. Send the message today, and if it is safe, ask for twenty minutes in the same room. Where this is going, people meet face to face.
