The Father's Good Pleasure
“Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”
Many of us have a habit of counting the room: how many came, how many are left, and how much smaller the group is than it was last year.
In Luke 12 there is a man doing his own kind of counting. He interrupts Jesus while He is teaching: "Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me." He wants his share of the family estate. Jesus refuses to take the case. Instead He tells a story about a rich farmer who planned to pull down his barns and build bigger ones, until God said to him, "Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee." Then Jesus turns to His disciples and talks for ten verses about ravens, lilies and worry. And He ends here: "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom."
Jesus does not tell them they are bigger than they think. He keeps the word little, and He chose it on purpose. The flock stays small. What changes is what they know about the Father's heart toward them. He is not a boss settling accounts at the end of the month. He is a Father who enjoys giving, and giving them the kingdom is His good pleasure.
Think again about the man who interrupted. He wanted an estate divided fairly, and he was standing in front of the One who was ready to give him a kingdom. He never looked up from his paperwork long enough to see it.
So do nothing with this today except receive it. Put your phone face down. Sit for two minutes and say nothing at all, not even a prayer. You have just been told that your Father is glad to give you the kingdom. Let that settle in the quiet, and do not turn it into a plan.
