The Father's Good Pleasure
“Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”
Counting the room is a habit you picked up somewhere. How many came. How many are left. How much smaller it is than last year.
There is a man in this chapter doing his own counting. He interrupts the sermon: Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. He wants his share, and it is not an unreasonable request; estates were divided badly all the time. Jesus refuses the case, tells a story about a farmer who built bigger barns and died that night, then turns to the disciples and talks for ten verses about ravens and lilies and worry, and lands here. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
He does not tell them they are bigger than they think. Little stands; it is a diminutive, and he chose it. What changes is not the size of the flock but the disposition of the Father. Not an employer settling accounts. A Father who enjoys the giving, whose good pleasure it is.
The man in verse thirteen wanted an estate divided fairly. He was standing in front of somebody prepared to hand him a kingdom, and he never looked up from the paperwork.
Do nothing with this today. Put the phone face down, sit for two minutes, and say nothing at all, not even a prayer. You have just been told the Father likes giving you the kingdom. Let it sit in the quiet without being turned into a plan.
